Vaccination, epidemiological situation examined at meeting with heads of medical institutions, mayors of localities of Gagauzia
Chisinau, 12 August /MOLDPRES/- Gagauz governor Irina Vlah summoned today in a meeting the managers of the medical institutions from the autonomy. The main topics discussed were the vaccination campaign and the evolution of the epidemiological situation in the region.
According to the doctors, lately, in the autonomy there is an increase in the number of infected people, which determined the resumption of the activity of the COVID centers in Ceadâr-Lunga and Comrat.
“In the infectious disease departments of Gagauzia, 35 patients were hospitalized, of which 13 are in serious condition. New cases of COVID-19 are characterized by a more severe form of the disease, and the rate of vaccination against COVID-19 remains low in the region. On 12 August, 9672 people or 7.6% of the population of Gagauzia went through the full vaccination cycle, and only 14,607 people received the first dose of the vaccine, representing 11% of the population. The vaccination rate of the medical staff reached 80.4% ", informed the specialists.
There was also an exchange of views on the reasons for people's reluctance to get vaccinated. The mayor asked the heads of local public administration bodies and managers of medical institutions to get as actively involved in the campaign as possible in order to convince the citizens to follow the vaccination procedure.
"The pandemic has already caused 290 casualties. Among them are doctors, teachers, other prominent and active members of society. During this time, our doctors have saved thousands of lives. The danger is real, the virus is changing and becoming more dangerous. Vaccination is the only way out of the epidemic and returning to free life.Being vaccinated means being responsible and helping society overcome the epidemic faster. We should all get involved in the campaign to persuade people to get the vaccine - this topic should be the most important now ", Irina Vlah said.
Currently, overall in the country, the highest vaccination rate is recorded in the capital, with over 20 percent, and the lowest - in Gagauzia with less than 10 percent.
