Day of funerals of writer Vladimir Besleaga to be decreed national mourning day in Moldova

The day of the funerals of writer Vladimir Besleaga will be decreed national mourning day. President Maia Sandu today conveyed a message of condolences to the family of the writer and the whole nation.

The head of state referred to the value of the works of the great writer.

„The Man and Writer Vladimir Besleaga passed away, but he bequeathed us something extremely valuable. He bequeathed us a rich literary legacy, in which we find confirmed the concerns of our people and the agitation of the History and of our feelings. He bequeathed us much warmth and kindness, a kind wisdom, which guided us to love this Nation young and old alike. The most important lesson which he bequeathed us was to persuade us not to despair and in ‘’terrible times,’’ to preserve our free and worthy spirit,’’ Maia Sandu said.

„Your Flight, Maestro, is no longer broken. We wish you a calm flight! Sincere condolences to the family and the whole nation – who knew, respected him and read his works. To pay tribute to great Besleaga, the day of the funerals will be decreed national mourning day,’’ Maia Sandu said.

A well-known writer and former MP, Vladimir Besleaga, passed away at the age of 93 today. He was a significant figure in the Romanian culture and literature, contributing greatly to the promotion of the national values and the Romanian language in Bessarabia.

Vladimir Besleaga was awarded the State Prize of the Moldovan Soviet Socialist Republic (RSSM) (1978). He was titled People's Writer (1991). He was awarded the Order of the Republic (1996, a distinction which he refused). In the 1990s, Vladimir Besleaga was involved in the National Revival Movement and was a lawmaker in the first Parliament of independent Moldova.
