Great Moldovan writer Ion Druta to be buried in Soroca, nearby Candle of Gratitude
Chisinau, 30 September /MOLDPRES/ - The great departed writer, Ion Druta, will be buried in Soroca, nearby the Candle of Gratitude, on 2 October. The Culture Ministry today announced the schedule of the funerals, worked out in accordance with the writer’s will.
Thus, the funeral ceremony will take place at the Mihai Eminescu National Theatre from Chisinau on 2 October during 9:00-11:00. Subsequently, the burial procession will go to Soroca, where the religious service will be held. The burial is scheduled for 14:30.
At the same time, the Culture Ministry informs that it will honour the memory and the contribution of writer Ion Druta to the development of the Romanian literature and culture through the organization of a string of special events, including a retrospective exhibition, theatre plays and the publication of an anniversary edition of his works.
The day of 2 October was declared national mourning day, under presidential decree, as a token of deep grief caused by the death of the prose writer, dramatist and essayist Ion Druta.
The prose writer, dramatist and essayist, People’s Writer, honorary member of the Romanian Academy, titular member of Moldova’s Academy of Sciences Ion Druta passed away at the age of 95 years on 28 September. The departed writer bequeathed to be buried at his native place and the Moldovan authorities gave assurances that they would provide every needed support to this effect.
