Chisinau, 10 November /MOLDPRES/ - Moldova for the fifth year in a row hosts the international exhibition World Press Photo, organized by the World Press Photo Foundation from the Netherlands, in partnership with the Centre for Independent Journalism, with the support of the Office of the Embassy of the Netherlands in Chisinau. The launch of the exhibition, held traditionally with the title, Stories which matter, took place at Moldova’s National History Museum today.

Attending the event were ambassadors and representatives of international organizations with headquarters in Chisinau, as well as journalists, proto-journalists and students. In his speech, the head of the Office of the Embassy of the Netherlands in Chisinau, Floris van Eijk, appreciated the effort of the World Press Photo Foundation from the Netherlands in backing the photo-journalism in the human rights sector. ‘’The exhibition shows stories from all over the world, seen through the lentil of photos. These stories present a synthesis of the most important and terrible events of the year. Thus, the present exhibition is a unique opportunity to experience and re-experience the events, which marked and prefigured the mankind during the previous year. The pictures at the exhibition show these challenges in a way which sometimes arouses strong emotions, which surely do not leave anybody indifferent,’’ Floris van Eijk stressed.

According to the manager of the World Press Photo, the Netherlands, Raphael Dias e Silva, this year, the jury selected 45 winners in eight categories.

This year, 4,315 photos from 130 countries participated in the contest, which sent 74,470 pictures. The winners of the World Press Photo 2021 are 45 photos from 228 countries. The annual exhibition World Press Photo is itinerant all over the world. The exhibition is set in almost 100 spaces from about 45 countries and is visited by more than four million people at each edition.
