Modern school minibuses for more educational institutions of Moldova: 38 new vehicles to carry pupils to school

A number of 38 new school minibuses today were handed over to general education institutions of Moldova, in order to carry about one thousand pupils to the schools where they study. The vehicles are part of a batch of 57 transport units purchased by the Education and Research Ministry (MEC).

The minibuses each have 17 seats and are equipped with modern safety systems, air conditioning and multimedia equipment. The MEC allocated 67 million lei for the purchase of 57 units.

Education and Research Minister Dan Perciun has said that this is the third consecutive year in which the ministry was delivering new school transport units to educational institutions.

"This year, we are talking about 57 transport units," the minister said. He  emphasized that the new vehicles were meant both for pupils and for the drivers who will be operating them.

According to Dan Perciun, starting from next September, over 1,000 students will be transported to other schools, in the context of the process of consolidating the schools’ network. The minister specified that the purchase of the buses was one of the measures meant to facilitate this transition and to address parents’ concerns regarding the safety of children’s transportation.

"These buses, together with the 1,000 lei per month for two years that we are offering, are part of our effort to make this transition as easy and as comfortable as possible. I encourage you to show parents the transport units, because this is one of their main concerns when we talk about the consolidation of the schools’ network: how their child will get to school and whether or not they will be safe. I hope that the quality of these transport means will be convincing enough for everyone. We are trying to buy the best for our children," Dan Perciun noted.

The minister informed that the school transport renewal programme would continue next year as well. According to him, the authorities intend to purchase more higher-capacity buses, after a first batch of 29-seat units was acquired this year.

The 38 minibuses delivered today are part of the efforts of Education and Research Ministry to modernize the school transport and to ensure that students from localities across Moldova have access to educational institutions.
