Moldovan PM, Japanese Ambassador discuss Moldova-Japan partnership
Prime Minister Vasile Tofan today had a meeting with Ambassador of Japan to Moldova Kazuyuki Takeuchi. The officials discussed the development of the bilateral partnership, the expansion of trade and the attraction of Japanese investments to Moldova.
PM Vasile Tofan expressed gratitude for the continuous support provided by Japan to Moldova. Over the years, including through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the country has benefited from assistance of more than 140 million dollars for the modernization of agriculture and the medical system, strengthening emergency response capacities, increasing the energy resilience and enhancing the capacities of public institutions. The sides discussed the possibility of expanding JICA-supported projects in the areas of railway infrastructure and agriculture.
For his part, Ambassador Kazuyuki Takeuchi highlighted the friendly relations between the two states and expressed Japan’s support for the modernization of the country and the European path of Moldova.
The dialogue also focused on developing economic cooperation, attracting new investments, increasing Moldovan exports and promoting local products on the Japanese market. In 2025, bilateral trade reached around 130 million dollars, with wine as the main product exported to Japan.
In 2027, Moldova and Japan will mark 35 years since the establishment of the diplomatic relations.
