Prime Minister Vasile Tofan has met representatives of more business process outsourcing (BPO) companies, residents of the Moldova IT Park (MITP). The PM referred to the priorities of the government programme, focused on economic development and enhancing the efficiency of the state.

The prime minister assured that the government would continue to support companies that invest in Moldova. At the same time, the PM underlined that the government did not intend to change the special tax regime applied to MITP residents, thus providing predictability for the activity of companies in the coming years.

Representatives of the BPO community touched upon the challenges specific to a relatively new and rapidly developing sector, in which regulations do not always keep pace with new business models. The BPO sector currently has about 6,000 employees and offers competitive salaries, contributing to the creation of attractive career opportunities for young people and to keeping them on the labor market of Moldova. In the context, company’s representatives advocated for a balanced approach on behalf of the authorities, constant dialogue and solutions that would allow any non-compliance to be remedied without affecting companies’ operations.

The discussions also covered how inspections of economic operators are carried out. The prime minister emphasized that the government advocated for inspections proportional to the nature of the identified infringements and for avoiding forceful interventions when they are not justified. The goal is for law enforcement to go hand in hand with maintaining a predictable and business-friendly environment.

The sides also exchanged opinions on new technologies, Moldova’s opportunities in the context of artificial intelligence development and the measures the state should take to maintain its competitiveness in the digital field.
