Meteorologists issue yellow heatwave, fire danger warning in Moldova; air temperatures to reach up to 36°C
Meteorologists today issued a yellow code warning for heatwave and vegetation fire danger. The warning is valid across the entire territory of Moldova.
According to the Meteorology and Environmental Monitoring Authority, the yellow heatwave code will be in effect on August 22. Thus, over large areas, maximum air temperatures will reach values of +33…+35°C, and locally up to +36°C.
During this period, the authorities recommend that citizens avoid prolonged exposure to the sun during peak hours (11:00–18:00), increase water consumption, wear light, light-colored clothing, avoid intense physical effort outdoors and use sun protection products.
Additionally, the yellow code for vegetation fire danger will be in effect on August 22–28. The warning was issued in the context of a lack of precipitation and high air temperatures, factors that favor vegetation drying and enhance the risk of fires.
Thus, the authorities recommend that the population avoid using open fire near agricultural land, forests and areas with dry vegetation, refrain from burning plant residues and comply with fire prevention measures.
