CFM: Moldovan farmers have priority for grain transport by rail

Farmers and companies in the Republic of Moldova have priority for grain transport by rail, and the wagons of Moldova’s Railway (CFM) intended for grain transport are reserved for domestic producers and companies, CFM specifies.

Ukrainian goods in transit are transported with Ukrainian wagons and do not reduce the available capacity for farmers in the Republic of Moldova.

“CFM is currently using approximately 20% of the network’s capacity. There is therefore sufficient space for the transport of Moldovan grain and for goods that only transit the country,” the company’s statement reads.

Regarding transport costs, CFM notes that, under the same transport conditions, Moldovan farmers pay less than is charged for the transit of Ukrainian goods. Thus, the tariff for exporting grain from the Republic of Moldova is 15.30 CHF/ton, while for the transit of Ukrainian goods it is 20.64 CHF/ton.

CFM points out that the tariff of 11.72 CHF/ton, mentioned in the public space, does not represent the full transport cost, as it does not include the use and return of the Ukrainian wagons.

At the same time, the institution stresses that the transit of Ukrainian grain does not mean its import into the Moldovan market. These are goods that cross the country’s territory on their way to foreign markets. For transport requests on the same route and through the same border crossing point, CFM grants priority to companies from the Republic of Moldova, the institution specifies.

CFM notes that over a period of eight days it transported more than 15,800 tons of goods in transit. These shipments generated revenues of over 1,000,000 lei for CFM.
