President meets with Turkish MP, Vice President of ruling AK Party
President of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu met today with Kürşad Zorlu, member of the Parliament of Turkey, Vice President of relations with Turkish states, who is on a visit to Chișinău.
The discussions focused on deepening bilateral relations. The parties noted the growth of trade exchanges, which have exceeded one billion dollars, and discussed the potential for their further increase, as well as opportunities for Turkish companies in the Republic of Moldova, including in major infrastructure and energy projects.
A separate chapter of the discussion concerned Gagauzia Territorial Administrative Unit. Both sides expressed their commitment to the development of the region and stressed the importance of free and fair elections in the autonomy, which should bring to office leaders who will work for the benefit of the Gagauz community — for the economic development of the region and for the preservation of the Gagauz language and culture.
The President appreciated Turkey’s role in regional security and thanked it for the friendly bilateral relationship and for the projects implemented in the Republic of Moldova, including in Gagauzia.
