Moldova and Turkey to strengthen economic and investment partnership
Prime Minister Vasile Tofan held a meeting with the parliamentary delegation of the Republic of Turkey, led by Deputy Chairman of the Justice and Development Party Kürşad Zorlu. The discussions focused on strengthening the partnership between the two countries, with an emphasis on economic cooperation, attracting investments and developing Gagauzia.
The Prime Minister underlined that Turkey is a key partner for the Republic of Moldova, and the Government aims to further strengthen this relationship through cultural ties, increased investments, and closer economic cooperation.
Special attention was given to the Gagauz autonomy. The parties discussed the importance of preserving the identity of the region’s inhabitants, as well as the need for economic development and the creation of more opportunities for citizens. In this context, Turkey’s contribution was appreciated, having implemented over 500 projects in the Republic of Moldova, about 90% of which are in Gagauzia.
Another topic concerned the expansion of Turkish investments in our country. Currently, around 1,200 companies with Turkish capital are operating in the Republic of Moldova, and the Turkish side expressed interest in new investments, including in developing production capacities. Among the sectors with potential, industry, renewable energy, tourism (including medical tourism), and telecommunications were mentioned.
For his part, Kürşad Zorlu praised the relationship of trust and closeness between the two countries and reaffirmed Turkey’s readiness to expand cooperation with the Republic of Moldova, including through new investments and development projects in Gagauzia. The officials agreed to maintain an active dialogue in order to turn existing potential into concrete projects and results.
