VIDEO // Energy Minister: Situation regarding fuel supply continues to improve

The situation regarding fuel supply continues to improve, said Minister of Energy Dorin Junghietu, who mentioned that existing stocks can cover approximately 15–16 days of gasoline consumption and 5–6 days of diesel consumption.

The official noted that in recent days, efforts have been made, together with importers and the responsible institutions, to reduce the impact of logistical problems caused by the low level of the Danube, which has affected deliveries of petroleum products through the Giurgiulești International Free Port. A significant share of imports has been redirected to road transportation, and the special corridor established through the Leușeni customs checkpoint is beginning to show results.

“Currently, the largest imports made into the Republic of Moldova are carried out through the Leușeni customs post. The navigation situation on the Danube River is very complex. This puts additional pressure on our importers, who used to bring fuel into the country through the Giurgiulești International Free Port. Thus, a large part of our importers have reoriented and are importing quantities through the Leușeni customs post,” said Dorin Junghietu.

According to information presented by the Ministry of Energy, on Wednesday eight stations resumed selling diesel and another ten resumed selling gasoline, compared to the previous day. Thus, out of 590 stations nationwide, 40 stations are still experiencing a temporary shortage of gasoline and nine of diesel, but the situation is in the process of normalizing as new deliveries arrive in the country, the ministry reported.

Dorin Junghietu assured that the authorities are monitoring developments on a day-to-day basis and are maintaining permanent dialogue with importers in order to eliminate any logistical bottlenecks as quickly as possible.

“Supply is continuing, stocks are gradually being replenished, and the measures implemented are contributing to the restoration of a normal flow of fuel deliveries throughout the country,” the official said.

The Republic of Moldova declared an alert state in the energy sector on July 28, for a period of 30 days, in the context of regional developments and the conflict in the Middle East.
