Chisinau, 15 January /MOLDPRES/ – The Romanian company Transgaz has started construction works for the gas pipeline Ungheni – Chisinau. The Vestmoldtransgaz administrators signed the contract for the construction of the administrative complex Ghidighici at the beginning of the week. The signing marks the start of gas pipeline construction and implementation of some measures for setting, operation and maintenance of gas pipeline Iasi – Ungheni – Chisinau.

"The construction of the pipeline will lead to the sustainable development of the national economy. Due to this project, we have a new gas alternative that will strengthen energy security. This project also means lower gas prices for our citizens," said Minister of Economy and Infrastructure, Chiril Gaburici.

The Vestmoldtransgaz company is a technical operator of the National Gas Transmission System of Moldova and ensures fulfillment of the national strategy regarding the transportation of natural gas.

According to the Ministry of Economy, for items for which no bids have been submitted, Vestmoldtransgaz resumed the procurement process and recently launched five open tender procedures, which are expected to receive bids by 21 January 2019.

The Ungheni – Chisinau pipeline will have a length of 120 km and capacity to transport annually about 1.5 billion m3 of natural gas from Romania to Moldova. The Romanian company has committed to investing in the construction of it up to €93 million.
