Minister of Energy Dorin Junghietu participated in the Informal Council of the Energy Ministers of the European Union on 4-5 September, held in Copenhagen, Denmark. The meeting included two debate sessions focused on the future of European energy and the development of cross-border infrastructure.

According to the Ministry of Energy, the Moldovan official emphasized that Moldova's energy transition is firmly aligned with European values and Green Deal goals. The minister recalled the historic synchronization of Moldova's energy system with the European network ENTSO-E in 2022, which allowed Chișinău to strengthen its energy security and become a potential regional exporter.

Among the highlighted achievements, the official mentioned the increased export capacity on the MD-RO line, the launch of tenders for renewable energy with investments of about 190 million euros, and reaching the threshold of over 780 MW installed from green sources, covering over 30% of national consumption, compared to 3.6% in 2021. Additionally, the Integrated National Energy and Climate Plan 2025-2030, aligned with EU objectives was adopted.

Dorin Junghietu drew attention to the major challenges regarding Moldova's dependency on interconnections with Romania and the urgent need for investments in modern energy infrastructure. In this regard, the minister emphasized the strategic role of Romania, recalling joint projects such as Vulcănești-Chișinău and Bălți-Suceava lines.

According to the official, Moldova's future goal is to transform into a regional energy hub between Romania, Ukraine and the European Union by speeding up interconnections, digitizing networks, integrating renewable sources and attracting European funds.

He concluded that the energy transition can transform Moldova's vulnerabilities into strategic advantages, providing security, more stable prices and sustainable investments.
