IGP head: MPs Alexandr Nesterovschi and Irina Lozovan on left bank of Dniester
MPs Alexandr Nesterovschi and Irina Lozovan, both sentenced to prison, are still on the left bank of the Dniester. Head of the General Inspectorate of Police (IGP) Viorel Cernăuțeanu made the statement.
The IGP leadership emphasized that the police do not have information that they are in the Russian Federation.
"As soon as this information was released into the public space, we sent requests to verify certain elements. I am referring to requests to Romania, Ukraine, and Turkey. We considered that there might be other important matters - for example, they could reach Istanbul by sea," said Viorel Cernăuțeanu.
The requests were also made through facial recognition procedures of the MPs.
"Everyone assured us that no crossing was detected. According to the information we have, the individuals are still on the left bank of the Dniester," stated Viorel Cernăuțeanu.
On March 19, 2025, MP Alexandr Nesterovschi was sentenced to 12 years in prison for passive bribery, preparing and accepting the financing of a political party by an organized criminal group.
Additionally, on March 31, 2025, MP Irina Lozovan was sentenced to six years in a high-security prison, in the case where she is accused of the illegal funding of a political party by an organized criminal group. She allegedly accepted money from the organized criminal group led by Ilan Shor to support the party's activities.
They disappeared from the sight of law enforcement this spring. According to authorities, Alexandr Nesterovschi, a day before the sentencing, entered the territory of the Russian Embassy in Chișinău, and later was transported to the left bank of the Dniester.
