Moldova strengthens cooperation with Danube states to develop inland waterway transport
The Republic of Moldova will strengthen its cooperation with the Danube states to develop inland waterway transport and modernize port infrastructure after Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development Vladimir Bolea signed the Danube Ministerial Declaration in Brussels alongside the transport ministers of ten other European countries.
According to the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development (MIDR), the document establishes common priorities for developing navigation on the Danube, modernizing port infrastructure, and improving the connectivity of the Danube states with the European transport network.
For the Republic of Moldova, signing the declaration creates new opportunities for cooperation aimed at modernizing Giurgiulești port complex, improving navigation conditions on Moldova’s section of the Danube, and strengthening connections with European transport networks, MIDR indicates.
Furthermore, cooperation with the Danube states and integration into European monitoring and data-exchange systems will contribute to more efficient management of navigation and cargo flows.
Authorities estimate that developing connections with European transport networks will support Moldova’s trade and exports and strengthen the role of Giurgiulești International Free Port on regional logistics routes.
