Guests of Summit of European Political Community to be served with wines from Moldova
Chisinau, 22 May /MOLDPRES/ - Moldova is one of the first 20 wine producing countries in the world and is on the 13th position in the world top of the exporting countries. Known to the European public, especially in the last years, the Wine of Moldova will be discovered in the country on 1 June by those 50 European officials, who will come to the Summit of the European Political Community.
The menu of the guests will include more native wines, blends from more native varieties, some of them recognized for the distinctions won at more international contests. There will also be sparkling or liqueur wines, which will be associated with traditional sweets and thus, the guests will be able to discover the gastronomy and the culture of the wine.
The acting director of the National Office of Vine and Wine (ONVV), Elizaveta Breahna, said the event due on 1 June would be an opportunity to reconfirm that Moldova was a recognized destination for the production of highly qualitative wines. ‘’The Wine of Moldova is a product of the national pride, is the most representative ambassador of our country internationally and an element of our identity. In the last years, the Wine of Moldova was recognized internationally by some of the most representative foreign experts, journalists who appreciated the high quality of the wine products,’’ the ONVV head said.
The Wine of Moldova is presently exported to over 70 states. The EU market has become one of the most important for the wine-makers of Moldova and Romania, Poland and the Czech Republic are in the top of the European states which prefer the wines produced in Moldova.
The wines products in Moldova account for 8 per cent of the value of the country’s exports – a niche which can benefit from more advantages with the presence of those about 2,000 guests. As a matter of fact, Moldova is among the first countries of the world with the biggest wine historical heritage and the organization of the Summit of the European Political Community in Moldova will encourage the development of tourism in this field and even the openness for the new export markets.
The place of the event itself sets the fashion of this tendency – the Mimi Castle, which is a wine complex with an impressive architectural structure, built in late 19th century by Constantin Mimi – one of the most prolific wine-makers and politicians of the period. The Mimi Castle is regarded as one of the most important tourist attractions from Moldova and was included in the Top 15 of the most beautiful architectural masterpieces of the wine world.
