Large wind, solar parks, accompanied by energy storage batteries, to be built in Moldova; new auction to be launched in next autumn
New high-capacity parks for producing energy from renewable sources, accompanied by energy storage batteries, are to be built in Moldova. The auction on this purpose is set to be launched in next autumn. The auction schedule was presented by Secretary of State of the Ministry of Energy Carolina Novac, at an economic forum held in Chisinau.
Thus, the auction is to be launched in October this year, with bids submitted by March 2026.
To determine the capacities of the new parks, analyses and modeling of the energy system will be conducted. At the same time, it is estimated that 246 MW-capacity storage batteries will be required to balance the energy system.
"The integration of energy storage systems (BESS) into the energy system will allow for reduced import dependency, avoidance of economic losses, prevention of negative prices, greater grid flexibility and facilitation of the integration of more renewable energy into the energy market," said Carolina Novac.
On March 31, the period for submitting bids for the first auction for the construction of large wind and solar parks, with a total capacity of 165 MW, ended. The auction winners are to be designated by government decision till the autumn of this year, with investments estimated at up to 200 million euros.
According to statistics data, in the last four years, the capacities of renewable energy-based power plants have increased eightfold, amounting to over 646 MW as of February, 2025.
