
Moldova to benefit from US grant to strengthen transportation infrastructure and boost trade
Chisinau, Dec. 18 /MOLDPRES/- The United States of America will provide Moldova with non-reimbursable financial assistance worth 80 million US dollars. The foreign policy and European integration committee members today approved the opinion for initiation of negotiations and approval of the 19th Amendment to the Development Objective Assistance Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Moldova and the Government of the United States for sustainable economic growth anchored in European integration.
The 80 million US dollars are earmarked for strengthening transportation infrastructure and boosting trade with Ukraine. The money will be invested in the construction of expanded parking areas for trucks near the borders to facilitate the system of managing the flow of transportation at the border. Financial resources are also planned to protect critical networks from cyber attacks.
Thanks to the grant, the total financial support through the Assistance Agreement will exceed 512.4 million USD. The Development Objective Assistance Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Moldova and the Government of the United States of America for sustainable economic growth anchored in European integration was signed in 2016.
