Moldovan MPs make amendments to Customs Code: residents of free economic zones to continue benefiting from facilities at payment of customs duties
Chisinau, 19 December /MOLDPRES/ - The residents of the Free Economic Zones (FEZ) will benefit, in continuation, from facilities at the payment of customs duties till 1 January 2029. The parliament voted a draft law to this end today.
The initiative belongs to the lawmakers of the Action and Solidarity Party (PAS), Radu Marian and Dorian Istratii, and the amendments to the Customs Code are proposed by the Finance Ministry. They are contained among the obligations taken within the Memorandum of Understanding between Moldova and the European Union and are conditions for the disbursement of an instalment of financing worth 50 million euros.
Respectively, the government will maintain the current regime of exemption from the payment of customs duties till 1 January 2029.
Also, during 2029-2034, the residents will benefit from preferential regime in continuation. More exactly, the customs duty will be calculated only for the inputs without preferential origin.
According to statistics data, in 2023, 26 FEZ residents imported processed goods or which were subjected to processing in Free Economic Zones on the rest of the customs area of Moldova. These residents have over 1,200 employees.
