Chisinau, 26 February /MOLDPRES/-The market surveillance law was adopted by the parliament in final reading today. The law was backed by 64 MPs.

The law provides for simplified quality assessment procedures, in order to protect consumers and prevent dangerous products from entering the market.

According to the draft law, while performing controls, market surveillance authorities should consider the goods’ degree of risk, as well as the validity of the consumers’ proclamations.

“The current law does not refer to food products, animal feed, narcotic and psychotropic substances, medical devices, medication for humans and animals, cars, aircrafts and aeronautical equipment,” the draft law reads.

The Economics Ministry is the specialty central body in charge of coordinating market surveillance activities. “The coordinating authority shall assess the national market surveillance activity every two years,” the document states.

The current law will enter into force 12 months upon its date of publication. Within one year upon the publication date, the government shall submit the parliament proposals to align the legislation in force with the provisions of the current law.
