Consumer prices slightly decrease in Moldova in last August

Consumer prices recorded a slight decrease in last August compared to July, according to data nu the National Statistics Bureau (BNS). Specifically, overall prices fell by 0.4 per cent compared to the previous month. The Ministry of Economic Development and Digitalization (MDED) noted that this was an encouraging sign that inflation is easing and the general trend is one of stabilization.

According to BNS, prices fell most sharply for food products. Fresh vegetables, seasonal fruits, sugar, pasta and some types of meat witnessed significant price cuts. Additionally, electricity rates decreased compared to July.

At the same time, fuels, new cars and household goods (refrigerators, freezers, washing machines, and dishwashers, televisions) became more affordable.

“These reductions have helped ease the pressure on each family's budget and provide relief for consumers,” said MDED.

Statistics data also shows that, in August 2025, the annual inflation rate was 7.3 per cent, but the monthly dynamic indicates a visible slowdown in price increases, emphasizes MDED. For consumers, this means more predictability and for the business environment, a safer planning framework.

Meanwhile, last month, the annual inflation rate in the European Union stabilized at 2.4 per cent, approaching the European Central Bank's target of 2 per cent. The monthly trend reveals a visible slowdown in the pace of price growth. In the countries neighboring Moldova, the level of inflation remained significantly higher: in Romania – 7.8 per cent (July 2025 compared to July 2024), and in Ukraine – 13.2 per cent.
