VIDEO // About 80 percent of Vulcănești–Chișinău power line pillars installed

The construction work on 400 kV Vulcănești–Chișinău overhead power line (LEA) is progressing, with 80 percent of the pillars installed and over 79 kilometers of conductors stretched, which means 51 percent of the total length of 157 km line.

According to the Energy Project Implementation Unit (UCIPE), so far, 501 foundations for pillars or 99 percent have been built, 456 pillars (90%) are assembled, of which 407 pillars (80%) are installed. Additionally, over 79 km of conductors (51%) have been stretched.

UCIPE director Ruslan Surugiu said that all parties involved are making efforts to ensure the work is carried out to the highest quality standards and completed on time.

The construction work on the Vulcănești-Chișinău LEA started effectively in April 2024 and is part of the Power System Development Project, funded by the World Bank Group. Its value is 61 million euros, of which around 27 million euros are for the construction of the line.

The project crosses eight districts and 35 localities. Depending on the energy system's regime, the line will be able to handle a power flow of up to 630 MVA, which could meet 50% of the energy demand during peak consumption periods.

The construction of the Vulcănești-Chișinău power line is a strategically important project for our country's energy security. The new power line will allow the transport of electricity from Romania or other European markets to Chișinău, without passing through the Moldovan power plant located in the Transnistrian region.
