Chisinau, 30 September /MOLDPRES/ - More than 7,700 citizens will be able to benefit from vouchers for the replacement of old and worn-out household appliances by new, more energy efficient ones. This will be possible within the Programme of vouchers for household appliances, launched in Chisinau today. The session of providing vouchers will last three weeks, till 20 October this year and the authorities allocated over 54 million lei for its financing.

Thus, the citizens who registered on the website www.compensatii.gov.md and had the extreme energy vulnerability category will benefit from a voucher worth 7,000 lei, but not more than 70 per cent of the value of the household appliance. The money will be able to be used for purchasing big household appliances, such as fridges or washing machines. To benefit from the new technology, citizens will have to provide in exchange the old household appliances from the same category, which are to be recycled.

Energy Minister Victor Parlicov said that this programme fit the government’s general efforts to help the vulnerable consumers, to enhance the energy efficiency, reduce the consumers’ invoices and contribute to the achievement of better environmental standards.

Director of the National Sustainable Energy Centre Ion Muntean explained the procedure of turning to account a voucher. Thus, the vouchers’ beneficiaries will be informed through a phone message or email. At the same time, the information on the list of beneficiaries will be submitted to those six networks of partner shops of the programme.

The present session of providing vouchers will last three weeks, till 20 October 2024. The budget available is of 54.4 million lei.

A pilot programme, Used up Household Appliances, was implemented in Moldova last year, through which more citizens benefited from vouchers for the replacement of old household appliances. The programme had a budget of 5.8 million euros and was developed with the financial support of the European Union and implemented by UNDP Moldova.
