Prime Minister Vasile Tofan has had discussions in Istanbul with representatives of major Turkish companies and investment groups during a visit dedicated to attracting investments and expanding economic relations between the two countries.

The meetings were hosted by Summa Group, a company already present in Moldova through investments in the energy, healthcare and tourism sectors. The discussions were attended by representatives of such groups as Fiba Group, CoreX, Franklin Templeton, Esas Holding, as well as textile companies Yeşim, Evkon and Asena.

According to the PM, Turkish textile companies are already providing approximately 1,500 jobs in Moldova, including in the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia.

A key topic of the visit was the development of the technology sector. The Moldovan prime minister held talks with the management team of Bilişim Vadisi, a technology park in Turkey that brings together over 800 companies. Its experience might serve as a model for the development of the HiTech Park in Stauceni, one of the projects promoted by the authorities for developing a technology-based economy.

“Moldova is open for business,” said Vasile Tofan, encouraging Turkish investors to produce in Moldova and make use of the country’s access to the European Union market.

The PM emphasized attracting investments in energy, technology and export-oriented production with high added value, so that these investments contribute to creating well-paid jobs in the country.

Presently, the trade between Moldova and Turkey exceeds one billion euros and the government aims to double this figure in the next 3–4 years by attracting new investments and developing production capacities.
