Moldovan deputy PM meets Latvian parliament speaker
Moldova’s negotiation process for accession to the European Union today was discussed by Deputy Prime Minister Cristina Gherasimov and Speaker of the Saeima (parliament) of Latvia Daiga Mieriņa. "Latvia is a successful example of national transformation through European integration," said Gherasimov.
Cristina Gherasimov said that Latvia was presently completely energy independent. The EU market has become the main point of trade for Latvian entrepreneurs and citizens enjoy a prosperous life.
"Today, we discussed with Daiga Mieriņa, Speaker of the Saeima of Latvia, the current stage of our accession negotiations and what Moldova can learn from the Baltic experience. We talked about best practices we can implement in the process of European integration, combating misinformation, strengthening democracy and reforming public administration," Gherasimov noted.
The deputy PM appreciated the support on behalf of the Riga authorities for Moldova, especially in the context of the energy crisis, and their support—diplomatically and with expertise—for the European path.
Speaker of Latvia’s Saeima Daiga Mieriņa paid an official visit to Moldova today.
"You are expected in the European family. I hope Moldova's elections are conducted in a democratic manner and pro-European forces prevail," said Daiga Mieriņa at a meeting with the Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu.
