Consultations on local public administration reform with development partners: providing expertise and assistance to build stronger communities
The development partners of the Republic of Moldova fully support the local public administration reform and will provide the necessary expertise and assistance to help implement it and to build stronger communities that ensure a better life for people. The message was conveyed at today’s meeting between Secretary General of the Government Alexei Buzu and external donors.
Buzu emphasized that the reform will bring better management of localities, more development projects implemented in communities, as well as higher-quality and more easily accessible services for people. “The reform is not about territories and administrative borders, but an opportunity to empower the local public administration in the Republic of Moldova, to have European-style town halls that can access pre-accession funds to raise the standard of living for all citizens,” he said.
The participants in the dialogue highlighted the need for efficient coordination of external assistance in the context of the reform, extensive communication about the benefits of the reform, as well as the adjustment of current assistance so that it is aligned with the objectives of the reform and upcoming priorities. External partners addressed issues related to the financial sustainability of municipalities, strengthening local teams, encouraging voluntary amalgamation, and ensuring ongoing coordination of actions under the reform with all relevant stakeholders.
“We see this reform as a way to accelerate local, regional and national development. We need your support and expertise for managing development projects,” added Alexei Buzu.
In the coming period, the local public administration reform will be consulted with all parliamentary and extra-parliamentary factions, as well as with citizens from all districts of the country.
