First Parliament Speaker buried at Central Cemetery in Chisinau
Chisinau, 11 December /MOLDPRES/- First Parliament Speaker Alexandru Mosanu was buried yesterday. Several hundred people, including deputy speakers Iurie Leanca and Vladimir Vitiuc, Prime Minister Pavel Filip, lawmakers, ministers, diplomats, former and current state officials, scientists and academicians have said goodbye to the first speaker, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.
The funeral ceremony began at the church “Sfânta Teodora de la Sihla” with a divine service. Then the funeral corps of Alexandru Mosanu’s body headed for the Palace of the Republic, where the mourning rally took place.
“We have become poorer after the loss of a great intellectual and a statesman who loved Moldova”, Leanca said.
First President of Moldova Mircea Snegur said “we say goodbye to a personality and a great patriot, who dedicated his whole life and activity to Moldova”.
Subsequently, the funeral corridor symbolically passed in front of the parliament building and went to the monument of Stefan cel Mare, where former head of the Writers’ Union, academician Mihai Cimpoi delivered a speech. “Alexandru Mosanu was a model of combining politics with morality. He was a historian of exemplary modesty”, Cimpoi said.
More historians and writers spoke at the mourning parade held at the cemetery.
Mosanu was buried yesterday at the Central Cemetery of Chisinau.
First speaker of Moldova, Alexandru Mosanu, died on 7 December, at the age of 85 years. He was MP in 1990-1998 and served as Parliament Speaker in September 1990-February 1993. He holds the highest distinction of the parliament, the Medal of Democracy.
