Moldova does not recognize so-called "election" in Tskhinvali / South Ossetia region of Georgia
Chisinau, 8 April /MOLDPRES/- Moldova does not recognize the so-called "election" that will be held in Tskhinvali / South Ossetia region of Georgia on April 10 and reaffirms its firm support for Georgia's independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders, the MAEIE press service has reported.
We fully share the concerns of the Georgian constitutional authorities about the intention to hold a so-called "referendum" in this region of Georgia, and condemn this violation of the fundamental rules and principles of international law enshrined in the UN Charter and the Helsinki Final Act.
In this context, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration reiterates the main position of the Republic of Moldova that any attempt to occupy or annex the territories of an independent state constitutes a serious threat to international peace, security and stability.
