President met with bipartisan delegation of U.S. senators

President Maia Sandu met today with a bipartisan delegation of members of the United States Senate, consisting of Senators Ted Budd, John Barrasso, Tim Kaine and Alan Armstrong. The delegation brings together senators from both the Republican and Democratic parties, reflecting the cross-party support that the Republic of Moldova enjoys in the U.S. Congress.

The President congratulated the United States on the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. She noted that this year the Republic of Moldova marks 35 years of independence and over these years, the United States has helped transform our country into an increasingly strong and stable regional partner.

Discussions focused on the impact of Russia’s war against Ukraine on regional security and the pressures exerted by Russia. They also addressed strengthening cooperation in the fields of defense and security, as well as increasing resilience, especially in the areas of cyber and energy security.

The President expressed gratitude for the continuous support provided by the United States to the Republic of Moldova, including investments in national security and energy sector, as well as for the strong and consistent support of the U.S. Congress.
