President met with European Commissioner for Environment

President Maia Sandu met today in Chișinău with Jessika Roswall, European Commissioner for Environment, Water Resilience and Competitive Circular Economy.

The discussions focused on the steps taken to advance the European integration path of the Republic of Moldova and on the progress made in aligning with the EU acquis under Chapter 27, dedicated to environment and climate change.

The two officials discussed the efforts needed to address climate change, investments in access to water, renewable energy, afforestation, and waste management, as well as strengthening the administrative capacities of the institutions responsible for these areas.

The Head of State welcomed the granting to the Republic of Moldova of the status of cooperating country within the European Environment Agency and thanked the EU for its constant support. The President also underlined that the Republic of Moldova is ready to open accession negotiations on all chapter groups (clusters), including Cluster IV, "Green Agenda and Sustainable Connectivity", which also includes Chapter 27.

Accession negotiations are conducted on 33 chapters, organized into six thematic groups.
