Moldovan President to attend Munich Security Conference

President of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu will attend Munich Security Conference on 13–14 February, one of the most important international fora dedicated to global security. On the sidelines of the conference, the head of state will hold bilateral meetings with several counterparts and high-ranking officials, during which they will address topics related to the regional situation, security cooperation and support for Moldova’s accession to the European Union, as well as for the country’s efforts to increase resilience.

Maia Sandu will also participate in a discussion panel dedicated to preventing and combating hybrid threats, alongside the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Sweden, Ulf Kristersson, the President of the Federal Intelligence Service of the Federal Republic of Germany, Martin Jäger, and the Chair of the NATO Military Committee, Giuseppe Cavo Dragone.

This year, the Conference will bring together nearly 50 heads of state and government, as well as leaders of major international organizations. Among the high-level officials who have confirmed their presence are the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, President of France Emmanuel Macron, Prime Minister of Poland Donald Tusk, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy, President of Lithuania Gitanas Nausėda, President of Latvia Edgars Rinkēvičs, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, President of the European Central Bank Christine Lagarde, and President of the European Investment Bank Nadia Calviño.

The meeting’s agenda includes discussions on global instability, the challenges facing the rules-based international order, European security and defence, the future of the transatlantic relationship, the revitalization of multilateralism, regional conflicts, and the security implications of technological advances.
