Moldova and Ukraine will continue to cooperate closely for the stability of the region and for their common European path. Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu and his counterpart Yuliia Svyrydenko reaffirmed this commitment at a today’s meeting. The officials condemned the war waged by the Russian Federation and the massive daily attacks on cities, which target critical infrastructure and leave Ukrainian citizens in the cold and dark.

At a news conference held after the bilateral discussion and the extended-format meeting of the two delegations, Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu emphasized the firm support of Moldova for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. The PM noted that the unity and resilience of the Ukrainian people provided, day after day, an example of defending freedom and democratic values.

“For almost four years, we have been living through a war that brings death, suffering and broken families. But for these same four years, we have seen the heroism, the unconquerable courage, and the strong solidarity of Ukrainians. This war must end immediately, through a just and lasting peace. The courage and heroism of Ukraine are eternal,” said Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu.

The Moldovan prime minister spoke about solidarity and the support offered by Moldova to Ukrainian citizens. Presently, more than 130,000 Ukrainian refugees are on the territory of Moldova, of whom 87,000 people benefit from the temporary protection mechanism – 20,000 of them are children. This mechanism ensures their access to the education system, to medical services, as well as to the labor market.

At the same time, a new humanitarian aid package for Ukraine has been approved, which includes intervention vehicles, electric generators, protective equipment, medical supplies and food products.

The prime ministers agreed to deepen economic, energy and infrastructure cooperation, including by developing cross-border connectivity, for the stability of the region and for bringing the two countries closer to the European Union.

“Moldova and Ukraine are true friends and reliable partners, united not only by the common border, but also by our democratic values, objectives and European aspirations. We believe that the European integration of Ukraine is an important element for the stability, security and European future of the entire region,” noted Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu.
