U.S. Secretary of State says Moldova's status of country candidate for EU outstanding result of efforts made by country, government
Chisinau, 20 July /MOLDPRES/ - The democratic processes in Moldova and the carrying out of the reforms necessary for the country’s irreversible rapprochement with the European Union will be further backed by the United States. U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken in Washington has made statements to this effect at a meeting with Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita, on a working visit to the USA, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
The Moldovan PM brought for discussion the economic, social and security challenges Moldova was coping with and enumerated the present major priorities, especially the support of the low-income people and ensuring the energy security. Natalia Gavrilita also referred to the actions undertaken for the implementation of the reforms in justice, combating corruption and strengthening the state’s institutions, as well as to the assistance necessary in the implementation of the reforms in the strategic sectors.
According to the PM, the ensuring of the people’s well-being and backing the vulnerable segments is presently a priority of the cabinet. She noted that the authorities were focused on the management of the energy crisis, ensuring the food security and trade’s reorientation.
„We work, in order to continue the process of country’s modernization and to implement Moldova’s European agenda, following the decision to give Moldova the status of country candidate for EU. Now, we have higher responsibility also for our citizens who aspire to be members of a space of peace, stability and of the family of the EU states,’’ Natalia Gavrilita said.
For his part, Anthony Blinken said that the transformations initiated by the government were regarded with much optimism by the United States, which will be with Moldova and will provide support for the priority reforms. ‘’We see a government with a strong agenda of strengthening the democracy, combating corruption and ensuring the energy security, all being sectors which the United States fully supports,’’ Anthony Blinken stressed.
The American official highlighted the support proved by people and families from Moldova for the refugees from Ukraine and set forth the need to back the Moldovan authorities in the management of the humanitarian and food crisis.
Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita is on a 14-21 July working visit to the USA, where a meeting of governmental leaders, business and science people is held, who discuss some of the most complex changes faced by the mankind at present.
