
Declaration by national bureau of Global Organization of Parliamentarians Against Corruption unveiled in Moldovan parliament
Chisinau, 12 October /MOLDPRES/ - A declaration by the national bureau from Moldova of the Global Organization of Parliamentarians Against Corruption (GOPAC Moldova) was unveiled and signed in parliament today.
The document was read by lawmaker Roman Botan and signed by 53 MPs till 14:00.
The Declaration reads that corruption is the biggest obstacle to the country’s flourishing and Moldova’s citizens expect from the lawmakers an honest assumed commitment to lead the fight against corruption up to the end. Also, the Declaration contains an appeal for the fulfillment of the commitments in the field of fighting corruption, taken in the dialogue with the development partners, promotion and observance, in the new plenary session, of the principles of integrity, ethics and conduct accepted in the parliaments of the democratic states.Also today, the lawmakers said that they would initiate a round of consultations and discussions with the citizens on the subject of corruption, a direct and open dialogue with the civil society’s organizations involved in the investigation and prevention of corruption.
The GOPAC Moldova National Bureau was set up on 12 July 2016. Thus, Moldova became part of a network of more than 60 national bureaus of the Global Organization of Parliamentarians Against Corruption. GOPAC Moldova has nine members, present and former MPs, representatives of all parliamentary groups. The GOPAC Moldova National Bureau was created with the support of the United Nations Development Programme, within the programme, Strengthening Parliamentary Governance in Moldova, implemented with the financial support of the government of Sweden.(Reporter A.
