Moldova to enter accelerated economic development
Economic development will be the top priority of the new government, which will undertake to promote significant reforms to prepare the Republic of Moldova for European Union accession. Special attention will be paid to attracting investments and supporting socially vulnerable groups. These assurances were given by Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS) candidate for prime minister Alexandru Munteanu, who emphasized that he wishes to start working as soon as possible.
“First of all, I want to focus on the economy, as I have announced. I am interested in the issues related to the economic sector. Of course, the opinions of economists, experts, civil society, chambers of commerce, and economic agents are very important to me. I want to get into the rhythm as soon as possible and… start, if not in fifth, then at least in third gear,” Munteanu said.
The candidate for the position of prime minister also said he intends to create expert groups and focus groups within the ministries to efficiently harness all the opinions and ideas that can contribute to the development of the Republic of Moldova. Alexandru Munteanu said he is not politically affiliated but supports the direction chosen by the election-winning party, being fully in agreement with the European path of Moldova.
“I am not a party man. It is important for me to live in harmony with myself and the principles promoted by the party that won the elections. There is no contradiction, because — who could contest that we are heading towards the European Union? We can discuss how we are going, the pace, the necessary reforms to get there. As most citizens of Moldova have chosen this path — is a reality,” Munteanu mentioned.
The PAS candidate added that economic development and improving the standard of living should be a common goal for all political forces, regardless of their visions.
“Who could be against economic growth? I believe that even parties or voters who did not support this program agree that our country must live better tomorrow than today. And today we already live a little better than yesterday. We must continue in this direction,” he said.
Alexandru Munteanu mentioned that his program will also include social measures that reflect the expectations and needs of Moldovan citizens.
“The government program will also include a social segment, which aligns with the hopes and aspirations of the majority of our citizens,” concluded the PAS candidate.
Alexandru Munteanu, the Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS) candidate for prime minister noted that professionalism, reputation and desire to work will be the main criteria in selecting the new government of the Republic of Moldova.
Munteanu confirmed that he holds citizenship in the USA, alongside that of the Republic of Moldova and Romania, noting that he obtained it in 2006 after residing in the United States with his family for a time.
Munteanu's candidacy for the position of prime minister of the Republic of Moldova was announced last week by Action and Solidarity Party leader Igor Grosu. Munteanu acknowledged that the offer was made to him by President Maia Sandu and he accepted it to contribute to the development of Moldova in a “unique moment” – EU accession.
