Government Spokesperson: It is important for people to make choice freely without lies

The important test we face in the September 28 elections is to choose representatives who resonate with our values. Government spokesperson Daniel Vodă made the statement today. He said it is important for citizens to freely express their voting options in the parliamentary elections, “without lies, manipulation and based on their own interests.”

“In our country, we have always met diligent people, those who care for their village, their community, who have consistently demonstrated uprightness. Our expectation is that for these people, regardless of their political option - whether they support the current government’s path of reforms towards peace and prosperity within the European countries' family, or whether they support another suitable project or initiative for the country - they should do so from free conscience, without lies, without manipulation, and based on their own interests,” said Daniel Vodă.

Daniel Vodă noted that the elections on September 28 are of crucial importance for the development path of the Republic of Moldova, and it is the citizens who must decide the country's future. Moreover, he denounced cases of “manipulation and disinformation” and warned of “external interferences,” stating that “the Russian Federation invests in disinformation, lies, propaganda, and division.”

“What the people of this country do not deserve is to be deceived through lies, manipulation, the induction of false ideas. (...) Overlaying this inherently sad message is also external interference, with informational materials created not in the Republic of Moldova, created abroad, documented not only by authorities but also by independent fact-checkers, journalist colleagues, and civil society members. And there is only one state behind this process, that is the Russian Federation, to say it as it is. Russia invests in disinformation, lies, propaganda, division, and this investment is a poor one, in my opinion, contrary to what we see happening with governmental and European investments, with funds invested in kindergartens, repaired schools, well-being in communities from north to south, east to west, in the unity messages we as authorities, as people forming the society of the Republic of Moldova, transmit,” noted Daniel Vodă.

In this context, Daniel Vodă mentioned that the police are investigating multiple cases concerning voter corruption in the context of the parliamentary elections on September 28.

“In the context where a parliamentary mandate is about 15,000 votes, then 30,000 people who would have sold their vote represent two compromised parliamentary mandates. (...) The true danger to our democracy is that it undermines our representation, not representing citizen Vodă or any other citizen, but representing an organized criminal group, placing marionettes in Parliament, in Government, in state institutions. And these marionettes will do nothing but impoverish the country,” stated Daniel Vodă.

Over the last two weeks, Police conducted over 200 searches, resulting in the arrest of nine people investigated in a criminal case initiated for acts of electoral corruption, illegal party financing, and money laundering.

On September 28, citizens of the Republic of Moldova with voting rights will choose their deputies in the future Parliament.
