Moldovan president condemns attack on Ukraine, violation of Polish airspace

President Maia Sandu has reacted after last night's massive attack on Ukraine and the violation of the airspace of Poland, a NATO member state.

“Moldova strongly condemns last night's brutal attack on Ukraine and the violation of Polish airspace. We have also faced similar incidents - further proof that Ukraine needs more support and that we, in Europe, must invest in stronger air defense,” said the head of state on platform X.

Today, Poland shot down Russian drones that entered its territory. The NATO chief urged Vladimir Putin to stop the war.

“Stop the war in Ukraine, stop the escalation of the conflict,” is the appeal made by NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte to Vladimir Putin, after the Polish military today morning informed that it had shot down drones that violated its airspace during a Russian attack on Ukraine.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said on social media that Polish military forces “used weapons against objects” – referring to what the military calls “drone-type objects” of Russia. More Polish airports were closed immediately after the escalation, but were reopened later.

In the face of the threat, Warsaw invoked Article 4 of the NATO Treaty, something that has not happened since 2022, at the time of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
