Moldova, Romania reconfirm support for just and lasting peace in Ukraine

Romania and Moldova insist that no decision regarding peace in Ukraine and no decision regarding the future of the Ukrainian people can be made without Ukraine and without appropriate security guarantees. Acting president of Romania Ilie Bolojan made the statement today, after a meeting with head of state Maia Sandu. The two officials reaffirmed the support for a 'just and lasting peace' in Ukraine.

'Romania and Moldova insist that no decision regarding peace in Ukraine and no decision regarding the future of the Ukrainian people can be made without Ukraine and without appropriate security guarantees. The way peace for Ukraine will be achieved will decisively influence our common security', stated Ilie Bolojan.

The Bucharest official also said 'without finding solutions to a lasting peace, any kind of ceasefire, which is not stable, may be just a short period of calm'.

'Without finding solutions to a lasting peace, any kind of ceasefire, which is not stable, may be just a short period of calm, and if Russia's expansionist thoughts remain a constant in the coming years, it means we can anticipate the resumption of a new conflict, and Ukraine may only be the first victim. We want to reach a solution to lasting peace', he said.

Maia Sandu reiterated our country's support for Ukraine in its endeavor to achieve a just and lasting peace.

'No one wants peace more than Ukraine, and we, here in Moldova, very much desire peace. We want a real, sustainable, and just peace. Today, Ukraine is the one ensuring peace for us in Moldova. We support Ukraine and will continue to support it in its effort to achieve a lasting and just peace', stated Maia Sandu.

Ilie Bolojan is visiting Chisinau today.
