Court of Appeal upholds decision by Central Electoral Commission; Modern Democratic Party of Moldova remains out of parliamentary race

The judges of the Central Court of Appeal today rejected the appeal by the Modern Democratic Party of Moldova (PDMM) against the ruling of the Central Election Commission (CEC), which did not register the party for the parliamentary elections due on September 28.

The decision of the Central Court of Appeal can be appealed at the Supreme Court of Justice.

The CEC's decision was taken after the Public Services Agency (ASP) had notified the Commission about the exclusion of the political party from the list of parties eligible to participate in the parliamentary elections.

These actions take place, given that ASP received data and information from the competent authority in charge of state security about "the existence of potential subversive actions carried out through PDMM and coordinated by individuals subject to international restrictive measures."

CEC on August 29 rejected the application for the registration of the list of candidates on behalf of PDMM. Representatives of the party described the decision as "illegal."
