Moldovan Central Electoral Commission presents preliminary results of second round of new local elections
The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) has presented the preliminary results of the second round of new local elections for the position of mayor in the localities where the ballot was held on May 31.
According to the CEC, the new local elections for the position of mayor in the municipality of Orhei, Orhei district, were won by the independent candidate Ramiz Ansarov, who got 4,681 votes, or 57.88 per cent.
At the same time, in the town of Taraclia, Taraclia district, Ecaterina Iacobceac from the Political Party, Party of Socialists of Moldova, obtained 1,691 votes, or 51.23 per cent.
Meanwhile, in the commune of Rusestii Noi, Ialoveni district, the elections were won by Diana Nastas, the candidate of the Democracy at Home Political Party, with 1,029 votes, or 61.18 per cent.
In the second round of voting, the candidate who gets the highest number of votes is considered elected. In the event of a tie, the candidate who obtained the highest number of votes in the first round of voting is considered elected.
In the localities where elections took place, the right to vote was exercised in total by 13,191 voters, or 31.44 per cent. By electoral district, voter turnout at the polls was as follows: in the commune of Rusestii Noi, Ialoveni district – 1,697 people, or 36.76 per cent; in the municipality of Orhei, Orhei district – 8,170 voters, or 31.87 per cent; and in the town of Taraclia, Taraclia district – 3,324 voters, or 28.41 per cent.
The CEC announces that all information provided until the receipt of original documents from lower-level electoral bodies is preliminary.
