Moldova has over 833,000 children; Public Services Agency says more than 9,000 babies born in first five months of 2026
Moldova currently has 833,795 children under the age of 18, of whom 405,071 are girls and 428,724 are boys. The Public Services Agency (ASP) has presented data to this effect on the occasion of International Children’s Day.
According to the institution, most children live in rural areas. Thus, 463,369 minors are registered in villages and 370,426 in urban areas.
At the same time, in the first five months of 2026, 9,049 newborns were registered, a decrease compared to the same period last year, when 9,199 children were registered. Since the beginning of the current year, 102 pairs of twins have also been born.
Among the most popular male given names in Moldova, there are David, borne by 14,800 people, Maxim – 14,438, Alexandru – 11,151, Daniel – 10,513 and Artiom – 10,143.
For girls, the most widespread given names are Sofia, with 15,627 registered persons, Anastasia – 12,549, Daria – 11,073, Victoria – 9,810 and Alexandra – 9,456.
The International Children’s Day is marked annually on June 1 in Moldova and in other countries around the world.
