Moldovan president launches children’s reading competition for June 1

President Maia Sandu today delivered a congratulatory message on the occasion of International Children’s Day, urging children to take advantage of the summer vacation, in order to discover reading and launching a nationwide challenge dedicated to books. The head of state encouraged children to read throughout the summer and to share their impressions of their favorite books, with the most active participants to be invited to the Presidential Administration at the end of the vacation.

In her message, Maia Sandu wished children a vacation full of joy, adventures and beautiful memories, emphasizing the importance of reading in developing imagination and knowledge.

“Today is your day – and the beginning of a summer full of adventures, play and nice memories. I wish you a peaceful vacation full of joy,” said the head of state.

On the occasion of Children’s Day, the head of state also launched a reading challenge for the entire summer vacation period. Children are invited to read as many books as possible until August 31 and to send to the email address citeste@prm.md the number of volumes they have read, along with the impressions that have impressed them the most.

“Books can become your best friends this summer. They help you dream, travel through time and space and discover new things. By staying away from screens, you will rest your eyes and mind and every page you read will make you richer in thoughts, ideas and courage,” Maia Sandu’s message reads.
