Moldovan Democrats' leader provides details on negotiations on setting up ruling coalition
Chisinau, 22 January /MOLDPRES/ - The leader of the Democratic Party (PDM), Marian Lupu, today provided details of the negotiations with the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM) and Liberal Party (PL) on the setting up of the ruling coalition. Lupu said that, to ensure the governing, the only solution was to create a coalition between the Democrats and Liberal Democrats.
Lupu said the PDM proposed that the post of president of Moldova should not be distributed between the three parties. He added that the Democrats’ positions was backed by the Liberal Democrats, whereas the Liberals did not and proposed to create a commission due to consider the way the head of state was to be elected.
As for PL’s proposal to appoint a foreigner to the post of prosecutor general, Lupu said that PDM proposed another solution. It deals with de-politicising not only the prosecution, but also all the law-enforcement bodies. „PDM proposed to set up a commission, which is to work out mechanisms that will really de-politicise these institutions. These mechanisms are supposed to be consulted with the European Commission and subsequently start implementing them,” Lupu said.
Lupu added that there were no divergences as regards the distribution of the offices of prime minister and parliament speaker between the three parties. Instead, PDM refused to yield the Transports Ministry to the Liberals and proposed them other ministries.
Marian Lupu concluded that „the governing must be created on the basis of a PDM-PLDM political alliance”. „I reiterate the appeal to PLDM to assume together the responsibility for the government,” Lupu said.
On 21 January, PLDM leader said that „ the appeal of PDM coincides at the level of responsibility for Moldova’s governing with the one of PLDM.”
The MPs are to continue the 21 January meeting today at 15.00, in order to elect the parliament’s leadership.
