Moldovan MPs do not recognize elections in Belarus and align with EU position
Members of the group For Democratic Belarus in the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova have signed a declaration not recognizing the elections held in the Republic of Belarus on January 26, 2025.
According to the parliament's communication and public relations department, Moldovan MPs have aligned with the European Union's position.
The declaration reads that the so-called presidential elections held in the Republic of Belarus on January 26 have nothing in common with democratic electoral processes and cannot, by any means, be labeled as free and fair elections.
“A genuine electoral process begins with the respect of fundamental human rights, such as the right to opinion, the right to assemble, the right to political association. All these rights have been not only limited but completely annulled in the Republic of Belarus, according to independent international reports,” the document's signatories said.
Moldovan lawmakers condemn the “crude discrediting of democratic processes” and reaffirm their support for democratic values and the respect of the fundamental rights of Belarusian citizens.
The parliamentary group For Democratic Belarus was created in 2022, aiming to promote democracy and fundamental freedoms in Belarus.
