Moldovan parliament speaker at Crimea Platform says Moldova stands with Ukraine, stands for justice, responsibility

Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu today delivered a speech at the Parliamentary Summit of the International Crimea Platform. He reiterated that support for Ukraine stayed a firm commitment of the Moldovan state, both politically and morally.

In his speech, the speaker thanked the Ukrainian people for their courage showed during almost four years in defending independence and freedom.

‘’You are protecting not only Ukraine, but also Moldova and Europe,’’ Grosu stressed.

He emphasized the role of the Crimea Platform in keeping international attention on the breach of global order by the illegal annexation of Crimea, calling this initiative a test for the entire international community.

The speaker also referred to the hybrid attacks directed at Moldova, particularly during the parliamentary elections on September 28. Grosu noted that Russia had invested about 400 million euros in disinformation campaigns and attempts to bring political forces controlled by criminal groups and the Kremlin into parliament.

‘’Our citizens resisted pressure and manipulation and chose democracy, transparency and European integration,’’ Grosu said.

The parliament speaker reiterated that Moldova knew the consequences of war, being a neighbor to a state under attack and having foreign troops on its territory. He recalled Chisinau's support to Ukrainian refugees and efforts to contribute to regional security.

‘’Moldova's message is clear and consistent: we stand with Ukraine. We stand for justice and responsibility. Let us continue to work in our Parliaments and through our partnerships, to ensure that a day will come when Crimea will be free, all occupied territories will be liberated and the Ukrainian people can rebuild their country in peace and dignity,’’ the parliament speaker also said.

The fourth edition of the Parliamentary Summit of the International Crimea Platform is hosted by the Riksdag (parliament) of Sweden. The event brings together presidents of national parliaments and inter-parliamentary organizations. During the event, speeches were made by the Speaker of the Riksdag of Sweden, Andreas Norlén, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk and President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky will deliver a video message.

At the same time, in Stockholm, Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu has scheduled meetings with his counterparts from Bulgaria, Croatia and Lithuania. Today  afternoon, the head of the legislature will meet Moldovans living in the Kingdom of Sweden.

The Crimea Platform was launched at a governmental level in Kyiv in 2021, at an initiative of President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky and is an international forum for consultation and coordination. It takes place at various levels—between governments, foreign ministers, parliaments and inter-parliamentary assemblies, as well as civil society and experts’ communities. The goal is to end the occupation of Crimea and return it to Ukraine peacefully.
