The parliament of Moldova benefits from a project valued at 1.4 million euros, supported by the Greek parliament as the main partner, and the parliaments of Romania, Italy, Hungary and Austria as junior partners. The Twinning project, Strengthening the Capacity of Parliament of Moldova and its Role in EU Accession Process, was launched in Chisinau today.

According to the Deputy Parliament Speaker Doina Gherman, this project involves fortifying the capacities of the Moldovan parliament in the process of accession to the European Union.

"We will improve the process of harmonizing legislation and empower the duty of  parliamentary control over government’s activities. Moldova is recognized as a small, but courageous country. With young institutions, but with vision. With hardworking people, who need help to fulfill their potential. Thank you, European Union," noted Doina Gherman on her Facebook page.

The investments made by EU in Moldova are investments in the future of the European Union, emphasized Romanian Ambassador to Moldova Cristian-Leon Turcanu, who participated in the launch event, along with the Romanian team represented by the Chamber of Deputies and the Romanian Senate.

"Ensuring an efficient, transparent and participatory legislative process is one of the foundations of any European state, and in strengthening this process, Moldova can rely on Romania, Greece, Italy, Austria and Hungary," the Romanian ambassador said.

In the next two years, the project will include expert evaluation missions, seminars, workshops, study visits and internships, as well as more intensive dialogue on subjects related to working out of legislation.
