Moldovan president says if Russia gains control over Moldova, Europe to end at country's border

President Maia Sandu warns that, if Russia were to gain control over Moldova, the consequences would be "direct and dangerous," both for the country and for the entire region, from stopping European funds to destabilizing Transnistria and turning the national territory into a launch pad for infiltration toward Odesa.

In a public address broadcasted on public radio and television stations, President Maia Sandu warned, on the eve of parliamentary elections, that the country's independence and European future were "in danger," because of the Russian Federation's interference with the electoral process.

"If Russia gains control over Moldova, the consequences will be direct and dangerous for our country and for the entire region. All Moldovans will suffer, regardless of whom they voted for. Europe will end at the border with Moldova. European funds will stop at the Prut. Freedom of movement could end. Our land could become a launch pad for infiltration toward the Odesa region. The Transnistrian region would be destabilized. These are their plans, and they state them openly," Sandu emphasized.

The head of state accused the Kremlin of throwing "hundreds of millions of euros" into buying votes, both in the left bank of the Dniester and abroad, using disinformation and provocations to intimidate the population. "Dozens of lies" flood the public space daily and paid individuals are prepared to provoke unrest and violence, the president added.

At the same time, Maia Sandu called for the mobilization of citizens on election day, urging them to vote "honestly, with a clear mind," and not to succumb to external pressures:

"The Kremlin believes that we are all for sale. That we are too small to resist. That we are not a country, but a territory. But Moldova is our home. And our home is not for sale."

In her message, the president advocated for unity and dignity:

"On Sunday, let's show everyone that Moldova is not a piece of land that can be sold or bought for a few pieces of silver, but our holy home."
