Moldovan Prosecutor General's Office to appeal legislative amendments adopted by parliament at Constitutional Court
Chisinau, 24 August /MOLDPRES/ - The Prosecutor General’s Office (PG) has informed that, on the next days, it would submit a notification to the Constitutional Court for the control of constitutionality of the amendments made to the Law on the Prosecutor’s Office, adopted by the parliament today.
According to a press release by PG, ‘’Moldova’s parliament, urgently, while ignoring the procedures of decision-making transparency, without taking into account the recommendations by the Venice Commission, experts in the field, as well as the opinions of the institutions, the work of which is concerned, today approved a string of amendments to the Law on the Prosecutor’s Office in the final reading.’’
“The Prosecutor General’s Office expresses disagreement with the way the concerned amendments were promoted and adopted, or in the version elaborated by the Justice Ministry, they run the risk of producing effects which seriously harm the constitutional principles concerning the independence of the Prosecutor’s Office and separation of the state powers, undermining the prosecutors’ independence to the advantage of political factor,’’ the communique reads.
The MPs today voted for the draft law on the amendment of the Law on the Prosecutor’s Office in the final reading. The document provides for the establishment of a mechanism of assessing the performances of the Prosecutor General.
