Moldovan speaker reveals conditions imposed on Tiraspol

The broadcasting of Romanian-language television channels in the Transnistrian region is one of the conditions imposed on Tiraspol in exchange for permission to deliver gas to the left bank of the Dniester. Channels such as Moldova 1, TVR Moldova, Pro TV Chișinău, TV8 and Noroc TV can be watched in the left bank localities. Speaker Igor Grosu made the statement at a TV show.

Grosu welcomed the broadcasting of Romanian-language TV channels, emphasizing that they will provide citizens on the left bank of the Dniester access to more information and opinions.

"Moldova 1 should be broadcast. There is a whole list of television channels: TVR Moldova and other channels - ProTV, Jurnal TV, TV8, Noroc TV - are available in a paid package on the cable network in Transnistria. TVR Moldova can be accessed via cable in Transnistria. Many used to say that these were Romanian-language and not Russian-language channels. Very well. It's very good for people to have an alternative, to at least hear one opinion. It is another interpretation of events," he said..

The official also noted that other conditions imposed by Chișinău include the restitution of Evrica high school building in Rîbnița and the release of people illegally detained in prisons in Transnistria.

"All the people there are illegally detained; it's an illegal regime, illegal court, they all need to be released," Grosu said, clarifying that if any of them are law offenders, they should be treated according to the legislation of the Republic of Moldova while respecting human rights and freedoms.

Another condition involves the removal of illegally installed blocks during the COVID-19 pandemic.

"There are 11 blocks left to be removed. We are not under illusions; we will monitor very closely. Just as they removed them, they can put them back. We are vigilant; we watch closely the behavior of those on the left bank," Grosu declared.

Tiraspol refused the 60 million euro grant from the European Union to continue gas delivery after February 10. Starting Friday, February 14, the Transnistrian region receives gas paid for by a company from Dubai and delivered by a company from Hungary through MoldovaGaz. Chișinău's permission to allow gas delivery was conditioned on a series of actions being taken by Tiraspol.
